The latest local COVID-19 developments include:

• Vaccination clinics in Santa Cruz County may soon expand to include people 65 and older and adults with health risks, depending on the allotment quantities handed down by the state in the next few weeks, County Manager Jennifer St. John told a community group on Monday.

During her talk with the Santa Cruz Valley Citizens Council, St. John also explained why officials expect to vaccinate a total of 20,000 to 25,000 people in a county with a population estimated at 46,500, and why it’s unlikely they’ll set up new vaccination clinics in outlying areas of the county.

• At some point during the past few days, the number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 surpassed the total count of confirmed coronavirus cases in Santa Cruz County. The numbers aren’t directly comparable, but still point to significant progress in the local vaccination effort and the growing number of individuals who likely have some immunity against the disease.
